It’s been quite a power-packed couple of weeks. The Flamin’ Groovies just toured Japan, Australia, and just did a standing-room, sold-out show in their home town of San Francisco.

Soon, the man himself may share a few words after he catches his breath…

In the meantime, be sure to check out the Cyril Jordan Facebook page and the official Flamin’ Groovies Facebook page, run by our pal David!

The Return of the Flamin’ Groovies

The wait is over.   Cyril has reunited his old mates the Flamin’ Groovies for a brief tour of Australia and Japan, with a homecoming show in San Francisco.   Chris Wilson and George Alexander are part of the groove, joined by Victor Penalosa (brother of Hector of the Zeroes).

Here’s a press release from Dig it Up for the Australian tour:

Feel Presents
Tickets on-sale NOW!

Thirty-One years after they last performed, San Francisco’s legendary Flamin’ Groovies will make again their presence known via Dig it Up! The Hoodoo Gurus Invitational appearing at shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

The 2013 Flamin’ Groovies will feature original and founding members Cyril Jordan (guitar) and George Alexander (bass) plus singer / guitarist Chris Wilson, vocalist for the band from 1972 – 1982 and singer of such classics as Slow Death (considered by the Rolling Stones as an inclusion on their Some Girls album) Yes It’s True, and the all-time power-pop anthem from the album of the same name Shake Some Action.

Train spotters will remark that the Groovies toured Australia in 1986 but that tour was without either Chris Wilson or Roy Loney – the singers respectively, on all Flamin’ Groovies recordings between 1966 – 1981. Dig it Up! will be the first time the Wilson / Jordan / Alexander collective has played anywhere in the world since 1982. Dig it Up!

In addition to Dig it Up! Feel are now chuffed to announce the Flamin’ Groovies will also play headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Tickets for these limited capacity shows at Sydney’s iconic rock venue the Annandale Hotel and Melbourne suburban favourite the Caravan Music Club will go on-sale Friday 5th April.

But wait, there’s more… Joining the Flamin’ Groovies in Sydney will be fellow Dig it Up! invitee Peter Case, a former member of both The Nerves (writers of the Blondie hit Hanging On the Telephone) and power-pop giants The Plimsouls. Case will perform the hits of both those acts plus a selection from his Grammy award winning solo years. Another first for Dig it Up!

Norton Records Benefit- December 16th in San Francisco

Our friends at Norton Records were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Their entire stock – LPs, CDs, 45s, picture sleeves, CD booklets, record labels and more – was destroyed by this terrible disaster.

Billy and Miriam shared an update on their situation:

For the first time in Norton’s history, we are asking for your help. It has been entirely against our policy and nature to ask anyone for anything, in the entire history of our magazine and label. It hurts us to even suggest that any of you who have supported the label and our artists by purchasing Norton records over the years, to support us over and above with a donation. But it has indeed come to this. We have added a donate button to our website. Here’s the story. Every penny of what you donate will go into remanufacturing record jackets and sleeves for the vinyl that we salvage. No donation money will go into our day to day expenses so long as we can go forward on a minimal budget. If we get to the point where we cannot meet our monthly budget, we will ask again. But now, all donations go into getting the Norton label records back out to the public. We will write more about the procedure in days and weeks to come. Several people have benefits in the works, and we are grateful to you all. Send us any benefit links and we will post and propagate on the Norton site. If any of you are computer, website, internet geniuses, share your smart thoughts with us.

San Francisco is joining in the efforts to help our friends at Norton.  Cyril will be part of a big fundraiser at the Elbo Room.
